My wonderful companions were getting ready for the next phase of their trip as I set off on my first day as a solo pilgrim. I was quickly joined on my steep ascent out of Conques by a couple from Sweden and another couple from Australia. They were so kind to snap a photo of me ringing the celebratory bell in the tiny chapel 1/3 of the way up.

I kept my eyes peeled for the red and white markings that let me know I’m still on the correct path. It’s a bit trickier on this part of the Camino because many paths intersect making it easy to get misdirected.

I almost hiked past this next tiny chapel. I’m so glad I didn’t because I would have missed the gorgeous windows it featured

It seems like each time I’m feeling tired and hungry a little oasis appears. This one offered crepes and a delicious regional dessert along with coffee.

My second day took me out of the busy city of Decazeville towards the tiny village of Montredon. I reunited with Marie and her jolly group and we had a great time hiking along and admiring the countryside. Her dog Totu barked hello to all the cows, sheep and dogs we passed.

I’m staying in a family’s guest house tonight and will join the family dinner. It’s a stretch for this introvert who doesn’t speak French! I’ll let you know how it goes. 🙃

Sending love from France!🇫🇷🥖🪻❤️

We also have three link of Bandini's notebooks, similarly in French, and dated 1953. In her notes below, she is equally meticulous in her drawings. In the first image, she takes notes on different types of hairsprings, noting the ratios required and what type of watch they would be suitable link for. In the second set of pages, she observes an example of secondary error, following changes in amplitude and link rate in a watch movement over five days.

I’ll see if it seems appropriate to get a photo at dinner! Let me see if the photo of the house will load here….WiFi is limited.
